Outer Hebrides

Acronicta euphorbiae [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775
Sweet Gale

Family: Noctuidae
Checklist Number: 73.044

A very scarce, mainly moorland species, recorded annually in the south of the islands, mostly during May - June.
We have retained the species name as Acronicta euphorbiae in favour of Acronicta cinerea as used in the new checklist. There is disagreement as to whether A. cinerea is a genuine species, therefore, we will retain the established name until this is resolved

The larvae feed mostly on Bog Myrtle Myrica gale and heather Calluna but may also use sallows and small willows Salix species
