Outer Hebrides

Caloptilia rufipennella Hübner, 1796
Small Red Slender

Family: Gracillariidae
Checklist Number: 15.006

The species was only discovered in Britain in 1970, and had a scattered northern and eastern distribution. Still rare in the islands, but this is probably due to the relative scarce distribution of the food plant.
The adults emerge in August and over winter

The larvae are feed as leaf miners in sycamore leaves (Acer pseudoplatanus) and emerge to feed in a leaf rool.
