Two records from South Uist though widespread on the UK mainland. Prefers woodland, gardens, hedgerows.

Larvae feed on a wide variety of trees including Pedunculate Oak Quercus robur, birches Betula species, Aspen Populus tremula etc., as well as feeding on small larvae of other moth species
