Common and widespread across the islands. On the wing from July to August in woodland, heathland, scrub and gardens. The larvae feed on a wide range of herbaceous and woody plants including willows (Salix spp.), blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) and stinging nettles (Urtica dioica).
