Plutella xylostella  (Linnaeus, 1758)

Diamond-back Moth

Numbers of this migrant species vary annually and can occur in large numbers. They can be found at any time of year but mainly in the summer months. Records, as of 2024, are from the southern islands but in July 2025 a first record came from Lewis. More records are anticipated from the northern part of the archipelago. The food-plants are in the cabbage family (Brassicaceae) and can cause serious damage to horticulture.
