Widespread across Scotland but scarce in the Outer Hebrides with five records from two sites: one in South Uist and one in Lewis. The flight period is July to August in woodland, scrub and gardens. A wide range of trees and shrubs are used by the larvae including hawthorns (Crataegus spp.), blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), silver birch (Betula pendula), oaks (Quercus spp.), honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum) and heather (Calluna vulgaris).
