Family: Yponomeutidae   Checklist Number: 16.001

Yponomeuta evonymella  (Linnaeus, 1758)

Bird-cherry Ermine

It has an erratic distribution in Scotland, first recorded on South Uist in 2013. The handful of subsequent records have predominantly come from South Uist but in July 2025 it was recorded from Stornoway extending its range somewhat. Known as a wanderer, it can be found far from its food plant, which, unsurprisingly, is bird cherry (Prunus padus).
