It’s reasonably well documented in eastern and southern Scotland but almost lacking in the north-west. The first record for the Outer Hebrides was light trapped in Stornoway in July 2025. (There is a historical record but lacking details.) It can be found in gardens and urban areas from June to August. The larvae feed on a wide range of herbaceous plants including common species such as buttercups (Ranunculus spp.) and docks (Rumex spp.).
